DISNEY STANDS BY ITS NEW MOVIE “LIGHTYEAR”, BANNED IN 14 COUNTRIES OVER GAY KISS
Disney Pixar’s Lightyear, a spin-off of the Toy Story franchise to be released on June 17th in movie theaters, has been banned in 14 medieval countries over female character Alisha Hawthorne (voiced by UZo Aduba) and her partner giving each other an affectionate kiss.
Some of those countries are Egypt, Indonesia, Lebanon, Malaysia, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates (Dubai) and China. Nonetheless, let’s totally not give them our money by spending any kind of vacation there. All gays should boycott them. Disney Marvel’s Eternals was also victim of the same treatment.
Disney did consider removing the scene but decided to not do so because of employees protests. Indeed, Pixar had earlier restored the same-sex kiss in Lightyear in March after staff released an open letter criticising Disney’s response to Florida’s “Don’t Say Gay” bill. While the nature of the characters’ relationship hadn’t been questioned by production, their kiss had reportedly been cut.
At the London premiere for the film on Monday, Chris Evans who voices Buzz reportedly said these objections to the same-sex kiss were “frustrating”.
“It’s great that we are a part of something that’s making steps forward in the social inclusion capacity, but it’s frustrating that there are still places that aren’t where they should be,” the actor said.
Meanwhile, producer Galyn Susman at the event, said Disney would “not cut anything out of the film, especially something as important as the loving and inspirational relationship”.
